Sr. Electronics Designer & Technician

Sr. Design Tech will report to the VP of Engineering and work closely with engineers on customer-focused projects and internal developments. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Hand-assembling components to PCBs having through-hole and surface mount technologies or combinations of both
  • Testing, troubleshooting and correcting electronic assemblies under development, during system integration or returned from the field
  • Working closely with mechanical engineers and designers in the design and integration of physical packages and PCBs that are to be embodied together
  • Acquire and/or build the tools and facilities necessary to support an electronic product development company
  • Working as part of a product development team with project managers, engineers, designers, assemblers, vendors, customers and corporate management, as necessary
  • Critical thinking is vital as is the willingness to challenge others regardless of their position in the company


Sr. Design Tech at Nikola Labs should have the following qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Electronic Engineering or related field required; Bachelor’s preferred
  • 10+ years of experience capturing electronic design schematics, laying out multilayer PCBs and assembling PCBs using the latest industry accepted standards for circuits entailing digital, analog and radiofrequency (RF) architectures and components
  • Strong working knowledge of the tools and facilities necessary to effectively support a viable and growing electronic product development company
  • A strong working knowledge of one or more mainstream computer-aided design (CAD) packages, such as PADS, Altium or Cadence Allegro
  • Working knowledge of IPC Design, Manufacturing and Acceptance Standards; IPC CID or CID+ certification are a plus
  • Close relationships with one or more U.S.-based PCB manufacturers, as well as one or more U.S.-based board assembly facilities capable of readily supporting PCB designs and fabrication needs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively convey ideas
  • Fluency in English; other languages are a plus
  • Ability to work in US
