Nikola Labs Licenses OSU Intellectual Property

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 1, 2015

Today, Nikola Labs officially licensed two patents from The Ohio State University pertaining to a breakthrough technology in radio frequency harvesting and wireless power transfer developed by Associate Research Professor Dr. Chi-Chih Chen at OSU’s ElectroScience Laboratory.

Dr. Chen is a renowned radio frequency (RF) engineer and antenna designer. He is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) Fellow. The licensed technology was developed by Dr. Chen and his masters and PhD students over the past 3 years.

Nikola Labs is a Columbus based wireless power startup created by Dr. Chen, entrepreneur Will Zell, John Bair and Ikove Venture Partners. Ikove is a Columbus based investment company focused on commercializing technologies from research institutions. Nikola Labs is currently completing the Ikove “Startup Nursery”.

Nikola Labs worked with the Ohio State Technology Commercialization Office to complete the licensing. Nikola Labs will continue to develop the technology toward a commercial product in the quickly emerging market for wireless power.
